A group of young teachers from various secondary schools in Freetown are planning a national Mathematics Quiz in the country.
The organizer and owner of Freetown Syndicate, Alimamy Sesay, says “the idea is to encourage pupils to love Mathematics.”
“Some are scared of Mathematics that is why we have held an up space Quiz at Ahmadiyya Muslim Primary school at Boyle Street here today March 17th 2025,” he said.
Mr Sesay was among some Mathematics teachers like Ishmail Turay, Ibrahim Kamara as coordinators.
The teachers who served as coordinators provided opportunity for a two set of competing students, by turn, to stand in front of others, while solving out mathematical problems on a White Board.
“We shall be coming up with a bigger one, Maths Quiz. This one is between Team Bang and Team Intelligence organized by us the teachers,”said Sesay.
A JSS3 student of the Henry Ferguson Junior Secondary School at Kennedy Street, east of Freetown, Susan Lebbie explained her liking for Mathematics.
“I am beginning to love Mathematics than before,” she said.
Other pupils were watching their peers who were being called out to solve algebra and other Maths topics and were timed 3 minutes each.
