The New England community in Waterloo is seriously affected by the recent heavy rains as gutters become widely open as they are dug up by the water.
Just with two days heavy rains of May, unpaved streets in the community have widely opened up as the earth becomes washed up, causing the gutters to open up more and more.
Even the many compounds in New England, Waterloo, have become a big risk as the soils become washed up by rainwater which pervades the grounds with force.
Currently, some roads have become almost unmotorable for motor cycles in most parts in Waterloo. While bike riders struggle to transport passengers to their different locations, those who care are filling up the earthen- holes on the roads caused by the flood water. The first hard rain came on Friday last week and on the days that followed. This shows clear sings of more heavier rains to come end of May and in the rest of the months in this year’s rainy season.
Climate researchers and scientists have said this is connected to recent abrupt changes in weather patterns in the world over.
It is good that people start finding ways to decongest the streets and gutters blocked by some rubbish.
While those who have weak houses are changing their roofs with zincs and tarpaulins, special caution should be given on the foundations of their houses and by clearing up the gutters or paving up the streets.
It is also nice that people should limit now the cutting down of trees in their compounds and on the streets.
This is because weather scientists report says Sierra Leone after Bangladesh and Burkina Faso, it is the third most disaster – risk nation in the world in terms of climate change affected countries.
