The wise bird has been following the activities of the Mayor of Freetown closely and with keen interest since she came to power in 2018 to date.

Since then, the bird has noticed that much has not been done to transform the municipality as she promised.

It is no secret that when Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr was re-elected for the second term, there was jubilation in the length and breadth of the capital.

Many believed that she will be able transform the city to their expectation, but unfortunately, that expectation has remained a mere illusion.

From the look of things, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr without prejudice has not only failed herself but her party the APC as well. She has been unable to effectively and efficiently handle the affairs of the council, with garbage littering every corner of the city and left unattended.

The bird further noticed from investigations that flooding in the city is mainly caused by unclean drainages and matters get worse by filths that flow down the hills to the city center whenever it rains.

Sometimes, the bird gets frustrated when he visits certain areas in Freetown.

The question of pure drinking water and sustainable light system are other serious issues one cannot imagine in the 21st century. To say Freetown still lag behind other cities in the sub-region cannot be overemphasized, considering its filthiness, darkness and riddled with countless potholes.

The bird could say without hesitation that Mayor Aki-Sawyerr will never be able to successfully handle the affairs of this council even if she is given tenth term opportunity.

Sometimes the bird wonders how Mayor Aki-Sawyer would like to run the affairs of the state if she is elected president, given the fact that she has not been able to properly handle the affairs of a small city with less than two million people.

That is an over ambition indeed, Madam Mayor. To the bird, the mere thought of Mayor Sawyerr to become flag-bearer of the opposition party is the biggest joke on planet earth.

To further substantiate the bird’s argument that Mayor Aki-Sawyer is not in perfect control of the Council, the Metro police have been left to operate on their own.

They are scattered all over the streets harassing and collecting bribes from the innocent traders on a daily basis. Some of these council police are even claiming that, they have not been paid for months now. But that should not be a justification for their wrongdoing in any way.

Of course the noise in the city caused by megaphones and loud speakers is another burning issue Mayor Aki-Sawyerr has still not been able to address like her counterparts in Bo and Kenema cities where they have been able to stop the menace with their people now living in quietness and peace.

The bird will never get tired of bringing out the odds in the council until something is done to change the narrative to the delight of the city dwellers.

The bird as usual went out to get the views of people and a good number of those he came in contact with said, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr is unable to handle the council let alone talk about a state. “She is a joker,” they charged.

In fact, some of them argued that she has no constituency to start her campaign if only it is true that she is interested in the leadership of the APC.

“It is no secret that Mayor Aki-Sawyerr has failed her own APC party,” they cried out.
