In one of its outreach programs to share with communities, a cross section of the executive membership of the Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association Saturday 8th February paid a humanitarian visit to the Kingtom Orphanage of Variety Children’s International.
The CEO, Board and Staff of the Charity were very proud to receive such a high profile visitation from an equally highly recognized professional body in the country. The visit, which was graciously pioneered by one of the Association’s caring members, Dr. Jeredine George included the president of the Association, Dr. Freddie Coker.
Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Variety Children International, Francis Lahai described the visitation as “the blessings of God descended on the children at the Orphanage.” He said the graceful presence of the most needed Professional Organization in Sierra Leone at the orphanage was a pride to them and an indication that people and organisations are appreciative of the sacrifices they are making for the children.” We are happy that people are closely monitoring our activities. This is indeed a blessing unto the children.”
Introduction of the president of the association was done by Dr. Jeredine George who in her opening remarks sincerely acknowledged the children and the great job done by the staff of the orphanage. She said to upkeep the children can certainly be an arduous task for which they need commendation. She said they were at the Orphanage to assess situations for possible partnership for the development and wellbeing of the children taken in by the charity organisation.
The President of the Medical and Dental Association, Dr. Freddie Coker introduced all his colleague executive members. He said they were happy for the initiative of Dr. Jeredine George to identify Variety Children International as a progressive charitable organisation to partner with in contributing to the development of less privileged children in Sierra Leone. “We are here to declare our purpose, which is to partner with Variety Children International for the future of the children and Sierra Leone,” said the president.
The president, after the short address, handed over packages of nutritious food items, some medications and a financial token to individual staff and the Agency as well.
The team acknowledged the great work of the Program nurse and visited the clinic. Their partnership work started right there with the prescription of medications for some of the children.
On behalf of the staff, board and management, CEO Lahai thanked God for the presence of what he referred to as “this most needed team since the inception of Variety Children’s Orphanage.”
Similarly, Tzu Chi Foundation from Taiwan visited Variety Children’s Orphanage on Wednesday 12th February. Tzu Chi Foundation is one of the primary donors to CARITAS International, a Catholic Christian aid agency with a long history of humanitarian work in Sierra Leone. The visit was coordinated by CARITAS FREETOWN.
The CEO of Tzu Chi Foundation, Madam Debra T Boudreaux expressed immense gratitude for the organizational structure of the program and thanked the founders, the board of directors, the staff and the executives of Variety foster parents Association for their great investment into the future of the children.
On behalf of the Foundation, Madam Boudreaux presented a gift bag of educational materials and 50 bags of Rice to the Orphanage.
Echoing her clarion call to help humanity at all cost was Ishmeal Alfred Charles, one of the pioneer partners of Variety Children. The team together with their local staff headed by Ms. Margaret and the media crew were given a brief tour of the facility by visiting the donor inscriptions’ wall and the medical clinic.
CEO Madam Debra T. Boudreaux also expressed her desire to have the Logo of her foundation side by side with Variety Children’s.
The visit ended with lots of photographs with the children and the staff.
