Mercy Ship which continues to follow the two thousand years model of Jesus Christ in bringing hopes and healings to people has not move away from this direction.
However, the ongoing rumours about Mercy Ship leaving the shores of Sierra Leone already has created a mix feeling in the hearts and minds of Sierra Leoneans. Especially Sierra Leoneans who have gained a lot from Mercy Ship hospitality and are wanting Mercy Ship to carry out doing more operations by helping others to benefit too.
On this rumours, Africa 24 Newspaper can authoritatively dispel this rumours that Mercy Ship will leave the country for a short period and will be back in August.
That is not true. In fact, there will be a month registration for new patients likely in June and which will be made known to the public.
Many Sierra Leoneans do acknowledge the good work of Mercy Ship in complementing government effort in wording to provide the health delivery service for the citizenry.
Sierra Leoneans have many health challenges but with the coming in of Mercy Ship charity organization many vulnerable, and sick people have had a breath sign of relief including very myself.
I am a journalist and I was given free surgical operation including other medical care.
In a bid to have an exit plan for the future, Mercy Ship has engaged in training 145 Sierra Leoneans health workers, dentists who are sponsored to have additional training in the Republic of Guinea.
And back home these sponsored nurses from Guinea will be able to fill in the huge gap at the time the Ship will have left the shores of Sierra Leone.
Furthermore, to help, on its exit strategy 20 general nurses are undergoing 18 months diploma in anesthesia training which is in line with a Memorandum of Understanding between Mercy Ship and the University of Sierra Leone.
It is hoped to help improve on the healthcare service of Sierra Leone. And it will that there will be no vacuum in that health aspect.
The training will be done in two batches, and more surgical operations is highly request by Sierra Leoneans.
At this backdrop, Mercy Ship as a humanitarian organization does acknowledge the plight of Sierra Leoneans.
By extending their stay, it is offering mentorship programmes and specialist training for health workers now in the country.
