Tejan Rogers, a lecturer at the Milton Margai College, Goderich campus, has been committed to the High Court for further trial in an alleged cyber bulling matter against his boss, Doctor Philip John Kanu the Chancellor of the University.
He was sent to the High Court by Magistrate John Manson Fornah of Pademba Road Court No.2 on Tuesday 1st July 2025.
Rogers was arraigned before the court on two counts charges of cyber stalking and cyber bulling contrary to section 44 (2) (b) of the Cyber Security and Crime Act 2001.
The charge sheet indicated that Rogers on diverse dates between 1st and 30th November, 2022 in Freetown, through social media via WhatsApp group posted stalked, bullied recording audios and text messages by means of computer system in a WhatsApp group called “Maada Must Stay Campaign” against Doctor Philip John Kanu that may likely damage his character and his hard earned reputation.
The charge sheet further that lecturer Rogers also posted bullied recording and text messages that were false by means of computer system in the same Whatsapp group that may likely damage his character and cause apprehension and provocation to breach the peace.
After the matter was mentioned, the prosecutor ACP Juan Bull informed the Magistrate that she has closed her case for the Prosecution.
Defense Counsel Zachariah Kanu made an application before the court that the media should not report on the matter, adding that his predecessor who was sitting on the matter was doing it in his chamber just to get it out of the media.
In reply, counsel representing the state, ACP J. Bull said the prosecution is not against the media reporting the said matter.
Magistrate Fornah admonished the media to report exactly the proceedings in court.
In his committal, Magistrate Fornah said he is satisfied that the prosecution has proven their case beyond reasonable double.
He said that the evidences of the witnesses corroborated.
He therefore sent lecturer Rogers to the High Court for further trial referencing section 44 (2) (b) of the Cyber Crime Act of 2001.
