The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) MP from Bo District who also doubles as the Deputy Leader of Government Business, Hon Bashiru Silikie, says mobile network companies are reaping their monies as Sierra Leoneans.
Hon Bashiru Silikie says the network in Sierra Leone is very poor and it is prudent for The National Communciations Authority (NaTCA) to improve on its services.
”We need to summon NatCA and the MNOs ( mobile network operators), they are ripping us as a nation,” Hon. Bashiru Silikie said.
GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications; it is an international standard for digital cellular communications.
Hon Deputy Speaker made the submissions on Tuesday 16th July 2024 during the debate on the approval of Daniel Kaitibi and 10 others in the Well of Parliament.
On a separate development, Hon Daniel Kaitibi has been appointed the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration.
Hon Bashiru Silikie said the presidential nominees are appointed by the president to perform but not to work for their personal interests.
He said over the years many constituents believed that MPs are responsible for providing development in their communities.
“Members of Parliament are not responsible for primary development,”he said.
He said the role of MPs are to make legislation, do oversight and representations, adding that MPs are over the years doing the work of the presidential appointees in communities.
“Go and work for the development and to complement government efforts, he said.
