In the ongoing murder trial at Pademba Road Court No.1 presided over by Magistrate Sahr Kekura, a mother has taken the stand to testify against her own son who is accused of murdering his brother.
The accused, Santigie Kamara, is charged with murder under section 1 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1861, as repealed and replaced by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021, Act No.6 of 2022. The prosecution alleged that on Sunday, January 19th 2025, at 555 Lorry Park, Waterloo, outskirt of Freetown, Kamara murdered Francis Amara Kanneh.
During her testimony, Kadiatu Carew, a businesswoman residing at No.11 off Frobe Lane, Waterloo, identified the accused as her biological son and the deceased as his brother.
She recalled that in the evening of January 19, 2025, she was at home feeling unwell when the accused came to visit. After spending a short time, he left the house. Later that evening, she received a call from an unknown number informing her of her son’s death.
Carew immediately contacted her elder brother, Abu White, to verify the information. He confirmed that the body of her son had been transferred to the mortuary. Shortly after, an investigation team arrived at her house, took her to Ross Road Police Station for questioning and later escorted her to the mortuary, where her son’s body was handed over to her.
The matter has been adjourned to March 14th, 2025 for further hearings.
