One of the faithful members of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Alhaji Musa Tarawally on Wednesday 19th February, 2025, launched the Falaba District Cooperative Society.
During the event, Hon. Tarawally accused some of his colleague politicians of not helping the needy instead; use divisive method for personal aggrandizement.
The event which attracted several stakeholders around the country was held Falaba district headquarters of Mongo Bendugu, Mongo chiefdom, northern Sierra Leone.
In his keynotes address, Hon. Musa Tarawally revealed that over the years, Sierra Leonean women have been suffering from severe poverty, a reason that motivated him to launch the multipurpose cooperative society for all women in the country.
He informed the people of Falaba District that the main motive of the cooperative society is to unify women because for far too long, the people have been divided on tribal, regional and political lines, a situation he out rightly condemned.
Hon. Musa Tarawally further slammed other politicians that they do not have anything to offer the people rather that preaching bad politics to divide them.
He told his audience that his plan is to us the cooperative to make women become self-sufficient in the country.
He promised to support the people of Falaba District in agriculture as they have vast land for that purposes. He told them that the cooperative is now doing well in western region western, Kenema, Bo, and Kono district.
He said the people should start developing themselves and stop relying totally on government as the latter cannot provide job for all citizens, noting that people engage themselves in doing business they will be able to get money and pay taxes to government so that government can use that money for development like building roads, hospitals, schools markets and several others.
Chairman of the event, Councilor Ibrahim Sorie Sesay thanked Hon. Musa Tarawalie for considering the women of Falaba district. He described cooperative as the answer to the development of any country because the affairs of the cooperative is in the hands of its own members.
He said that the idea of forming cooperative is a novelty for the people of Falaba district. He said that the cooperative have members across all the chiefdoms in Falaba district.
Welcoming Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawalie, Paramount Chief Mohamed Lamin Marrah III of Mongo Bendugu chiefdom Falaba district, said that the people of were happy for the visit and the initiative that he has for them. He praised Hon. Musa Tarawalie to have done a lot in terms of supporting agriculture and other sectors.
He said that one can’t know the problem of the people if he doesn’t visit them.
In his statement the Hon. Paramount Chief representing Falaba district, Thor Thor Sheku Marah III thanked Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawalie for visiting his district. He outlined most of the needs of his people including road, water, hospital schools and scholarships for his people. He emphasized that the construction of the road from Kabala to Mongo is more Paramount than any other felt need of the district. The PC MP stressed that because of the road condition the prices of goods remain high. He furthered that soon the people of Mongo will join Guinea if government fails to construct their roads. He said most of their goods hardly go to Kabala and Freetown because of the bad road they are instead taken to nearby Guinea. He called on Hon. Musa Tarawalie to support people of Falaba.
Speaking to the people of Kabala town on Thursday 20th February 2025 at the Kabala district Council Hall, Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawalie said that he hailed from Falaba district and he cannot sit by and watch his people suffer in poverty.
He said that he wants to remove his people from abject poverty. He stressed that all the supports he is providing for the women of Sierra Leone are coming from him as he is not getting support from government. At the end he deposited NLe500 million at the cooperative bank account.
Alhaji Musa Tarawalie said that he wants the women of Kabala to be rich which is why he is giving them all the necessary supports that they need. He said that he has constructed several mosques in the country together with his partners.
Hon. PC Alie Balansama Marah III of Sengbeh chiefdom welcomed Hon. Musa Tarawalie and his entourage in Koinadugu District. He said that they will give all the necessary support for the cooperative to succeed. Councilor Kalie Thoronka also thanked Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawalie for his good work and promised to give all the support to the cooperative Society. He called on all beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity so that they will be above poverty.
The Chairman of Council of Principals in Koinadugu District Balla Sesay stressed that the people of Koinadugu District want scholarships to support their children, lamenting that women always go through several challenges to support their children. He said that the free quality education is doing well in the district but they need more support from government and other partners.
Several people including the District Officer Koinadugu District, Trader’s Union Chairperson Nenneh Markie made very important contributions during the meeting.
The vote of thanks was done by Paramount Chief Alimamy Friday Umuro Jalloh III of Kalian Chiefdom. The occasion was climaxed by dancing and other traditional celebrations all over the district.
