A senior attorney in the High Court of Sierra Leone, Lawyer Micheal Jesse Jengo has called on the Judiciary of the country to terminate the contract of Netpage/ De La Rue for the conferring of the country passport to deserving citizens and individuals across the country.
He made the disclosure to this press recently during an exclusive interview at his Campbell Street office in Freetown.
Speaking to this press, the Led partner for the law firm Jengo, Sam and Partners, Counsel Micheal Jesse Jengo noted that they had already filed a legal application before the high court of the country for the Immigration department and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to terminate the national passport contract of the current holding company, Netpage/ De la Rue because it does not meet some of the terms and conditions stated in the contracts that were signed in 2013 and 2017.
According to the legal practitioner, they are taking up the legal matter as an independent citizens who thinks that his legal national rights has been trample upon due to the breach in the terms and conditions in the contract, adding that the law firm want to brings the public attention to the lots of irregularities in the current contract. He also noted that these irregularities have to do with the reported claims that the current passport is securitize with a special data security chip and also a biometric passport standard.
However, lawyer Micheal Jesse Jengo noted that most of the claims made by Netpage/ de La Rue concerning the biometric and security provisions in the passport are not true which led them to file a legal application in the courts of the land for the contract to be terminated.
Lawyer Miceal Jesse Jengo also told this press that they have lots of compelling evidences to show that the claims made by the company are not true, noting that the law firm has conducted in depth investigations both nationally and internationally to verify this false claims made the current holders of the passport contract, Netpage/ De La rue.
He also noted that most Sierra Leonean Passport holders faced lots of embarrassments when they travel internationally using the present biometric passport, stating that when international immigration authorities check on the passport they always noticed that it is not secured and does not have any biometric features.
Lawyer Jengo called on the current Minister of Internal Affairs and the Chief Immigration Officer tom do the needful before the intervention of the judiciary.
Meanwhile, the proprietor of Netpage/ De La Rue, Jamal Shallop has reportedly told the press that then current passport contract is worth up to two million dollars and the government is yet to refund his money back, despite several request made to retrieve it.
