A police investigator has revealed that one Nigeria national swallows eight pellets of Cocaine.
The man is identified as Yusuf Shaka, a Nigerian, who appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1 in Freetown.
The accused appeared before the court on two count charges to be in possession of cocaine without lawful authority to do so.
On count one, the accused was arraigned before the court for collecting a prohibited drug without lawful authority contrary to section 7(b) of the National Drug Control Act 2008 Act No.10 of 2008.
On count two, the accused was found in possession of prohibited drug without lawful authority contrary to section 8(a) of the National Drug Control Act No.10 of 2008.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on Friday 25th October 2024, at the Freetown International Airport Lungi, was found in possession of fifteen pellets of cocaine without lawful authority.
The state prosecutor I. A Kamara, led in prosecution witness Detective Sergeant 9589 Jabati PJK investigator attached at the Transnational Organize Crime Unit (TOCU Headquarter) and according to him, whilst on duty the accused was brought to him for investigation.
He said the accused was arrested at Lungi Airport when he was about to traffic the drug to France.
According to the witness, he said that the accused alleged that he was sent by someone to collect and traffic the said drug.
According to the witness, he said, the accused came purposely to the country to traffic the said drug.
In his testimony, he said the accused swallowed eight pellets of cocaine and kept the seven pellets in his socks.
The witness said before the accused was brought to him from Lungi, he excreted the eight pellets he had swallowed.
The witness told the court that when the accused was brought to him, he took additional statement from the accused to ascertain whether he left Italy for Sierra Leone to traffic the said Cocaine.
The witness said that the accused admitted positively to this.
Testified in court, the witness told the bench that the accused revealed to him that it was the first time for him to come to Sierra Leone, and that he came to collect the drug from someone.
Having given his testimony, he was cross-examined by the defense counsel Dr. Saffa Abdulai.
After the crossexamination, he applied for bail for and on behalf of the accused person.
In the interest of justice, Magistrate Kekura, due to the gravity of the matter, he refused bail and remanded the accused person to the male correctional facility in Freetown the matter was adjourned to the 4th of February 2025.
