It has become a common phenomenon in Sierra Leone where people especially those holding public positions feed fat on the meager state resources without provision of requisite service (s) and go scot free.
These unscrupulous, unpatriotic and state enemies never want to leave their positions, in a bid to prolong their nefarious activities and therefore, any attempt by anyone to criticize them automatically becomes indispensible target (enemy).
Of late, Africa24 have become the latest victim of embarrassment and intimidation for simply unearthing the ills in certain public quarters in our society which we believe have undeniably brought the tiny impoverished nation to its knee.
But in spite of these threats, Africa24 will remain strong, undeterred and courageous to continue our work with avowed commitment to uphold the tenets of development journalism. We will never allow an individual (s) whether public official, organization (s) or otherwise to intimidate us. We will remain fearless in the discharge of our duties as responsible media practitioners and nationalistic Sierra Leoneans.
That is why we have always tried as hard as possible to uphold key fundamental principles as indicated in our policy statement of providing accurate, correct, balanced, impartial and credible information.
Africa24 also stands to promote good governance, democracy through expression of free speech with strict adherence to the rule of law that is enshrined in the constitution of Sierra Leone and the Independent Media Commission (IMC) Code of Conduct and Practices.
An even as we have tried or trying to do our best in the spirit of fair play and patriotism, certain dishonest people in public offices that are milking our state dry of its scarce resources at the expense of others with impunity, now see Africa24 as enemy standing their way.
Honestly, this situation has given us renewed vigor to continue to monitor the areas of transparency and accountability in public offices to help curb corruption, and guarantee vertical and horizontal flow of information and importantly to build citizens’ trust in public service delivery.
