Due to poor performance, Sierra Leone Olympic reps 2024 have returned home without a single medal from Paris after competing in the Paris Games.
Joshua Wyse was removed from the Men’s 50m Freestyle event on Thursday, August 1st, 2024.
While Olamide Sam ended sixth in the Women’s 50m Freestyle, with a time of 42.87 seconds, beating her previous record of 48.51 seconds.
Fatmata Koroma, 17-year-old Judoka was removed in the round of 16 in the 57kg women’s category by Taiwanese veteran Lien Chen-Ling at the Arena Champ-de-Mars. Besides, Sprinter Georgiana Sesay failed to advance in the Women’s 100m heat.
Though Sesay had recorded a time of 11.99 seconds in heat 4 and finished fourth, she woefully did not secure a place in the 100m.
However, 206 Athletes took part in this year’s Olympics Games and the 2024 Paris came to an end in August 11, with over two weeks sporting joy in France, with several sports men and women etching their names in records.
Nevertheless, citizens are calling on the Sports Committee in Parliament to summon and investigate NOC, NSA and MOS regarding allegations that have to do with the inclusion of family members in the Paris Olympic trip 2024, calling it a waste of taxpayers- money on Athletes who have come home with a medal.
Critics say the incumbent government is spending money from the Consolidate Revenue Fund (RCF) on sports men’s travels while basic necessities in the country such as electricity, roads, jobs creation, food security, pure water etc are not available.
