Wonders have never ended in this tiny republic particularly in the political circle where those at the helm of affairs can do anything humanly possible to get what they want regardless of its ramifications.
For this reason, the Wise Bird has never been surprised to see or hear what had happened, what is happening now or what will happen tomorrow because he has witnessed for instance politicians held in high esteem by their supporters or admirers cross carpeting or even abandoning their own political entities to pitch tent with others for obvious reasons.
Just like what the patriotic bird is expressing, he has been bombarded with persistent calls this time around from members of the ruling SLPP party, complaining bitterly about the ugly scenario unfolding in their party.
The bird is reliably informed that, the party had set-up a committee to review its Constitution to make provisions for level playing field for other members to fully participate in the party’s activities including but not limited to holding important positions without fear.
However, they have expressed skepticism that despite this new development; some people within the inner core still want to twist everything to make themselves comfortable without the least consideration to how the general membership feel.
These people did condemn the setting up a committee; the only problem according to them is the composition of the committee, considering the fact that the present Chairman of the Committee has allegedly expressed interest in the leadership of the party.
To them, such development cannot only intimidate other would-be contenders for that position but will eliminate them even before the contest starts in earnest. To them, such is like one being “a player and at the same time a referee” which they out rightly condemned in its entirety.
As the Chair for the Committee, they argued he has no right to express interest for the leadership of the party because they said there is every tendency for him to influence other committee members to insert certain clauses into the new Constitution to make way for their boss.
After painstakingly listening to their numerous calls and concerns, the patient bird went out to get the views of people on the issue.
Most of those he contacted expressed mixed reactions. Some out rightly condemned Dr. Sengeh’s intention to vie for that position he been the chair of the committee whose function is to make level playing field for all to participate without intimidation, fear or favour. Such practice, they charged is not a healthy democratic tenet and described as a naked corruption.
Others who are his avid supporters however, argued in his favour that there is nothing wrong for their man to express his interest despite he is the chair of the committee charged with the responsibility to oversee such important functions.
The concerned members said the SLPP they used to see and know is not the same SLPP they are seeing today.
The bird is watching!
