The attention of the Wise Bird has been drawn to latest negative development in the banking industry which has made the bird to become restless.
Those who did not believe in transparency and accountability have always considered the Wise Bird to be very inquisitive on issues.
Others hold the bird in a very high esteem because they know the bird is always on the right track on taking about issues of national interest.
The former Bank Governor Professor Kelfala Kallon, after his appointment as Bank Governor, was very quick to be able to convince the government advising for a change of currency.
The government bought the ideas of the Professor, failing to have a second thought as to what will be the after effect on the economy of his argument to change the Leone.
After the government had spent billions and billions of Dollars to print new monies including bringing coins, the brave bird has noticed that, the coin is no longer in circulation, it is probably stocked in the banks and private homes.
The question the Wise Bird wants to ask is that, what was the need for printing coins when the people are not using it.
The most respected animal is of the view that, our economists in the country ran out of ideas at the time of the discussion to print new money.
Was it because they too had received kicked-backs at the time of the discussion that makes them not to object to the discussion of printing of the new currencies?
Our economists should have studied the economic situation in the country before advising for a print of coins.
Can we say in totality, that our so-called economists in the country have disappointed us?
The printing of coins according to the brave bird was just a waste of time, energy and tax payer’s monies to say the least.
In fact, what the former Bank Governor told the people of Sierra Leone was that new denomination and that of the old ones carries the same values. Of late the people came to the realization that it was a way of convincing the people to get his own kick-back in the process.
The question is why printing new monies when the old and new carries the same value?
Today the coins are now useless in the market; they have no use, their level of acceptance is poor so it’s nothing to write home about.
Will the Bank of Sierra Leone device a method so that, the people will accept the coins?
