A member of parliament from Kambia District who doubles as the current Chief Whip in the 6th parliament, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara (Hon. AKK) remarked: “Our people are not fools,” while taking to Africa24 journalist.
The MP revealed that for the past decades, Sierra Leone politicians have been toying with the future of the citizens, according to a description by him.
He said lack of political awareness among people politicians feel they should always be honoured highly by others at the expense of the electorates.
Hon. Kamara said considering the current dispensation with the emergence of the new media which has served as an educative platform, social media has helped to revitalize the minds of the people taking into cognizance their current behaviors towards politicians.
The Chief Whip of the opposition in Parliament has taken up the venture to continue to remind politicians that the days of ‘grandiloquence’ have gone because citizens are more aware now than before.
During his submissions, he made it clear that one major error of politicians is that they underrate the silence of the people to mean everything in the country is going at the right direction.
In other words, he meant the silence of the guns and the people does not signify that the society is peaceful or calm.
He also noted that the people are not fools but they have only chosen peace over what they believe have not benefited them for over 60 years.
“As much as I am concerned, the citizens are not happy when looking at the ongoing political monopoly, starvation, inflation, human rights violation etc. in the country which point to series of evidence that may propel chaos,” he said.
