On Monday’s engagement in the well, an MP from Bo District says he will keep mute on the issue of bad electricity if asked to fix it by colleagues.
The MP who doubles as the Chairman of Energy Committee in Parliament is Hon. Kekura Vandy.
“Don’t call me for any electricity fault in your community or house. I will disclose this statement in the Well of parliament warning MPs not to call me for electricity problems, ”
Hon Kekura Vandy warned.
The MP has also urged all MPs and all politicians to condemn electricity vandalization in Sierra Leone.
“Maybe there are MPs who know about illegal electricity connections in their communities but they don’t speak about this in the well,” Hon. Vandy said.
The MP revealed that electricity vandalization is very alarming, stating that what is happening in the country has never been experienced in the sub-region in terms of electricity thefts and vandalizations.
Hon. MP has also stated that that in the last six years of President Julius Maada Bio Presidency, electricity supply has been so much effective and sustainable, while discrediting those who are “hell – bent” on destroying electricity items which have made light distribution within communities to become a big challenge.
He pointed out that, most of the problems faced by Sierra Leoneans in terms of electricity are caused by EDSA staff themselves.
“Your EDSA staff have created all the challenges. They do illegal connections and get paid in return,” Hon. Kekura Vandy said.
The MP highlighted many challenges faced by the electricity sector ranging from payments, thefts, illegal connections and faulty meters.
In his submissions, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella expressed concern over the electricity thefts and illegal activities which have cost much loss of revenues in the electricity sector.
Dr. Kandeh Yumkella however expressed optimism for a renewed commitment to providing electricity supply in the country.
Several MPs spoke on the need to put more premium on electricity generation than on the distribution.
