As usual, Bra Parrot has been flying the length and breadth of the city to know the daily and correct happenings.
Whilst having lunch in one of the restaurants downtown Freetown the wise bird was reliably informed by one of the people he met there that, a $50m project to build pedestrians over-head bridges was allegedly given to the government of Sierra Leone.
To ascertain what he was told, immediately he finished taking his lunch, Bra Parrot flew over the city from east through central to the far west and saw for himself two pedestrians bridges one at Shell, New Road and the other at Wilberforce in the west.
What has remain a concern to the curious bird though is not about the availability of these bridges but the exact number of people who will be using these facilities, considering the fact that there is no heavy traffic congestion in all the areas they are located.
To be realistic, the patriotic Bird did not see it as viable venture, given the appalling economic situation the country is facing. In essence, the project is not in any way beneficial to the people and the nation in general.
In fact, this issue has angered the nationalistic animal so much so that he now wants to know first of all who awarded the contract, to who, and how the whole process was done.
These are all questions Bra Parrot want the government to answer and without delay.
If my memory could serve me well, the Wise Bird could vividly remember that, during the days of the APC, under erstwhile President Ernest Bai Koroma, the SLPP, while in opposition some of its senior figures especially the sacked Finance Minister and later Chief Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa and former deputy Internal Affairs Minister Mr. Lahai Lawrence Leema were all over the place including radio programmes lambasting the APC government to be spending recklessly. But what Bra Parrot wants to know if this over-head pedestrian project is not a reckless spending, given that it has no economic benefit to the nation.
Bra Parrot is just thinking aloud, if a hungry person will be able to mount an over-head bridge?
After putting one and one together, Bra Parrot came to the conclusion that, the project was nothing more than just job for the boys.
