The wise bird and the Institution for Governance Reform (IGR) are thinking alike when it comes to national issue because they call things by their correct and proper names.
The most respected animal has also done an independent survey on the on the same issue of dividing the city, but unfortunately he has no authority to make his own report public like the IGR. So he kept quit.
According to the report sent to the bird, a survey conducted by one of the most reputable institutions in the country, Institute of Governance Reform (IGR), reveals that about (1,072) one thousand and seventy-two people were interviewed to get firsthand information whether the people are aware of government’s proposal to divide the city and their responses.
The report disclosed that about 62% of the people resident in the capital Freetown totally rejected the proposal of government to segment the city.It also added that about 57% of the people interviewed said the Freetown City Council (FCC) should remain as it is, and that 32% claimed that they have heard about government’s proposal to split Freetown into parts.
According to them, it will be detrimental to the economy, given that the government is not be able to take care of one city let alone two or more, it will be the worst.
According to the report, about 30% want smaller councils to be under the supervision of Freetown City Council and 13% supported the full decentralization.
However, the result of the survey completely exposed the gap between government’s proposal and the public awareness and Parrot believes the views of the people should be accepted in the interest of democracy.
The bird also sounded the views of the general public, and most of those he came in contact with vehemently opposed the government’s proposal to divide the city because it has not been able to handle the affairs one city.
The bird will monitor the situation to see if how the division process will hold.
