Hundreds of supporters of the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have gathered at the Political Party’s Regulatory Commission (PPRC) to petition the outcomes of the ongoing lower level elections across the country.
Many expressed dismay over the conduct of the elections, insisting that some were not transparent as they were marred with irregularities.
One ardent SLPP supporter Moses Sandi told this medium that some results were never reflective of the will of the members of the party.
Sandi stressed that the reason they went to the PPRC is to seek redress and to ensure fair play during electioneering process. The aggrieved complainants are therefore calling for re-run of the elections where the results where disputed.
Another supporter Aminata Sulaiman Jalloh said as member of SLPP they feel disenfranchised as some of them were refused their voting rights coupled with the imposition of candidates on them they believe will truly and properly represent them.
The despondent supporters insisted on the principle of ‘one person, one vote’ to remain unchanged and importantly to be used for their own choice. They emphasized that anything more than that will be counterproductive for their party in future elections as many supporters will choose to join other political parties.
They therefore urged the party to treat the matter will the seriousness it deserves.
