Members of Parliament from both sides of the aisle have demanded a list of all foreign workers in Sierra Leone to be forwarded to Parliament.
The MPs made the request on Thursday 27th March 2025, during the debate on the approval of the Presidential appointees in the well of Parliament.
The Parliamentarian from Koinadugu District, who doubles as the deputy leader of Parliament, Hon Daniel Koroma, has emphatically urged the newly appointed Chief Immigration Officer to as his first assignment register all foreign workers in Sierra Leone.
According to him, the country is losing a lot of revenue in the hands of foreign workers, adding that as MPs in the Labour Committee are working on a formula, and need a comprehensive list of all foreign nationals with the names of the companies they are working for.
The MP stated that one area the country is starving is revenue generation, and foreign workers are in the country who are not paying their work permits.
Hon. Daniel Koroma also called on the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Energy to look into the issue of electricity theft.
He also spoke on the electricity transformer at Congo Cross, which he said has been erected there for months without functioning.
Hon Koroma highlights challenges faced in the electricity sector.
He asked what happened to the Bumbuna phase II which might address the long-standing electricity problem.
He urged the Deputy Minister to ensure that he address the long-standing electricity issues in the country.
The SLPP MP from Bo district, Hon Joseph Williams Lamin urged the presidential nominees to do the work for which they are appointed.
“Open up your doors for your constituents, MPs” he asserted.
