The new Chairman of Water Resources Committee in Parliament who is the opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK), has folded his sleeves to decisively deal with water companies who are not following the laydown procedures.
During the interactive engagement with the water sector institutions, the MP categorically stated that the manner in which people are suffering for lack of pure drinking water is unbearable and unacceptable.
He insisted on the needs of concerted efforts from water sector stakeholders to address the perennial water problem faced by the people of Sierra Leone.
Hon. Kamara stressed that he will not hesitate to deal with anybody or institution that fails to do their work.
“I will also recommend or call on resident Bio to sack those that receive monies but fail to do their work properly,” he vowed.
He revealed that his committee is planning to summon all water companies to reveal their water production sites to know whether they are ideal.
Kamara warned that those companies who are selling sachet water but do not go through the due process will be closed.
He also cautioned those who are yet to go through Sierra Leone Standards Bureau to test their waters to do so or have themselves to blame.
The Chairman also urged those who were given contracts but did not execute them to do so now or face the consequences including the termination of the contracts.
These projects, the lawmaker stressed are what make President Bio proud if they are thoroughly executed and completed,” he stated.
However, Members of Parliament in the committee have expressed regrets for what they called unfinished water projects in their various constituencies and districts.
The Committee promised to visit various sites to see whether these projects are executed according to contractual agreements.
Meanwhile, water producing companies especially their Union is expected to be in Parliament to answer questions on Monday coming.
