As part of his effort to ensure the prevalence of peace and stability in his area of command, the Local Unit Commander of Waterloo Division, Chief Superintendent of Police, Joe Kamanda Bongay has on Thursday January 25th 2024, engage recently elected Village Headmen and former Village Heads on security relzted issues.
The meeting which attracted over two hundred newly elected Village Headmen and former Heads seeks to bring the two parties together to discuss security related issues to ensure the peace and stability of the respective Communities.
Addressing the gathering, CSP Bongay admonished them to respect their Leaders. He called on former Village Heads to support and work with the newly elected Leaders for the pace, stability and development of their localities. He said from the reports he has received shortly, it is clear that most former Village Heads do not want to respect the present Leaders which he noted will not be tolerated by the police.
He emphasized that anything that has the propensity for violence should be addressed immediately rather than waiting for it to escalate.
He noted that the police will never work in isolation and that they need the support of the people.
He congratulated the newly elected Village Headmen and urged them to maintain the peace and stability of their respective Villages. He urged them to work with all stakeholders including former Village Heads to ensure sanity.
CSP Bongay urged the former Leaders to always give their support to the newly elected Village Heads for the good of all.
In his contribution, the Chairman, Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB), Waterloo Division, Edward Buba Sesay, lauded CSP Bongay for the meeting which he said is timely. He called on all stakeholders to feel free to engage the LUC on issues affecting their communities.
The Strategic Support Officer, CSP Tamba Jimmy called on all to keep their communities safe.
On his part, Superintendent, Mohamed Dumbuya told the gathering that the Police will never succeed without their support, adding that, they are ready to work with the people regardless of their status.
The Head of Community Relations Department, ASP Christiana Sia Bundor recommended that inorder to foster unity, both present and former Village Heads should create a forum for regular communications.
The Secretary General of Mabureh Village, Thomas Vandy called on the police to capacitate Community Safety Volunteers to ensure better service delivery.
Several Village Heads from Jopoh Farm, Bureh Town, Mabron Village, Samuel Town, Manor Corner among others made meaningful contributions on security matters affecting their localities. They pledged to work with the police to ensure sanity.
