The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) representative from Bo who is the deputy leader of Government Business in Parliament, Hon. Bashiru Silikie, has admitted in the Chambers of Parliament that “Politicians are the inciters.”
“We are the ones inciting our youths for unrest in our nation. Let us reduce tension. During the 4th Parliament, we did not witness such political tensions,” he said.
Hon. Bashiru said this while giving tribute for late Hon. Dura Koroma on Thursday, 9th October 2025, in Parliament.
Hon. MP narrated how the 4th Parliament under the leadership of President Koroma was peaceful, insisting that politics is not about creating tension.
He said the current Parliament and politicians are even afraid of talking or visiting each other due to political malign from party members.
He urged all political classes, especially those in Parliament, to ensure that they use the death of Hon. Dura Koroma as a typical example of political tolerance the late man exhibited before his death.
He attributed the late man as a man who knows no boundary, region, or tribe.
“Late Hon. Dura Koroma is a hero who has set the pace for all politicians to emulate. In fact, I came to know that he is an APC MP a few months ago and he was closer to the SLPP than to his party MPs, “the MP stated.
In his tribute to the late man, the Leader of the opposition party, Hon. Abdul Kargbo said the APC as a party will miss the MP who he referred to as perfect debater who served his party diligently until his demise.
He said that the APC is mourning following the sudden death of Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma, Member of Parliament for Tonko Limba Chiefdom, who lost his life in a tragic road accident.
The leader stated that the news of his Ho. Koroma’s passing has sent shockwaves through Kambia and beyond, with residents describing the loss as devastating for the community and the nation.
According to Hon. Kargbo, late Hon. Koroma was widely respected for his tireless service to his constituents and his unwavering dedication to Sierra Leone’s democratic process.
Colleagues and community members, referred to him as a principled leader who placed integrity and progress at the heart of his political career.
“This is not only a personal loss to his family and friends but also a heavy blow to the entire Tonko Limba Chiefdom and Sierra Leone as a whole,” the opposition leader remarked.
