The Director of Budget Advocacy Network (BAN), Abu Bakar Kamara has called on the Bio government to rationalize expenditure to enable provide basic services for the people of Sierra Leone.
“Government officials are using first class to travel abroad. At times, we have to rationalize expenditure especially in overseas travels by using economy class to travel thereby saving cost and resources that will help provide the much needed basic social services for the people,” Kamara said. He spoke about the big five game changer manifesto which President Julius Maada Bio promised to implement in his second and final term as president of Sierra Leone. He said the government has to find ways to know the type of debt they should take. Kamara pointed out that because of the new Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that have been created by the President; it will increase the wage bill and affect other priority needs. He emphasized that the government is not generating enough money and therefore called on the people to pay their taxes to enable government pay some of the debts they have loaned over the years. He called on government officials to use the resources judiciously and implement the big five agenda promise.
