The Regional Police Commander, North East, AIG Aiah Edward Samadia took over the Region on May 30th 2023 after being transferred there by the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu.

Before his transfer, AIG Samadia served as Director of Professional Standards and Regional Police Commander, South and Freetown East respectively.

AIG Samadia’s exceptional performance through hard work and commitment cannot be overemphasized as it is clearly evidenced since he took over the region. Being a respectful and disciplined officer, he has instilled discipline in his personnel and preached community policing that has to a large extent make the North East Region in general and Makeni in particular peaceful, calm and quiet.

Both the people of Makeni and personnel have already lauded him for the manner he has been working with them. The people observed the effective and robust day and night patrols being undertaken by personnel in strategic and hard to reach areas.

The junior officers told this medium recently that they will continue to give their boss the much needed support to enable him succeed.

“Disciplined has been instilled on personnel. Punctuality, professionalism and neatness has been the hallmark of his administration,” a senior police officer confided in me recently.

It is on record that under his leadership, AIG Samadia successfully handled the issue between the EBK University administration and students during their exams period, provided robust security before, during and after the multitier elections in addition to engaging major stakeholders including RSLAF, SLRSA, National Fire Force, Judiciary, market women and youth groups and the media on his new style of policing and solicited their support and cooperation to ensure the prevalence of peace and tranquility in the region.

The effective policing of the just concluded multitier elections without hitch also added feather to his cap.

Several police officers and community people described AIG Samadia’s leadership as consultative and inclusive which has given him the upper hand to always deal with issues without problem.

It is against this backdrop that many of his officers have described him as a mixer and visionary leader who believes in team work.

They said that since he took over the region, AIG Samadia has not only strengthened commanders and personnel relationship, but has also created platform and shares thought with Coordinators, Commanders and the rank and file to ensure professional job is done.

They said that even though he is sometimes flexible and lenient with them but has never allowed any officer to take that as his weakness, considering the fact that he instituted disciplinary actions against some personnel for professional misconduct and disorderly behaviour.

Many people see the transfer of AIG Samadia to the North East as a big blessing as he has been able to address issues related to security in that part of the country.
