Bra Parrot being a wide traveller, researcher and great informer, has been flying the length and breadth of the country to get correct, accurate and reliable information about what is happening in most part of the country.
Recently, Bra Parrot was in Moyamba district, Ribbi chiefdom, Bradford to be precise on Thursday 26th October, 2023 to attend a very important meeting with chiefdom authorities in respect of the forth-coming Paramount chieftaincy election.
However, nobody knew the wise bird was at the elders’ meeting for obvious reasons.
And what the patriotic bird gathered from the meeting was quite disturbing in that it was never in the interest of either the chiefdom or the district.
The Patient Bird discovered with dismay that in 2019, 2020 and 2021 the District Office (DO) and the chiefdom, (Ribbi) collected huge amount of money (ies) with the pretext that, they were going to revise the list of Tribal Authorities (TAs).
Meanwhile, Bra Parrot was also able to know that, all that money (ies) collected did not reflect in the chiefdom’s account in Moyamba.
At the meeting the wise bird was informed that, the people of the chiefdom (Ribbi) decided not to pay or buy tax until they get the correct amount of taxes that were collected in 2019, 2020 and 2021 respectively and how much was expended in totality.
At the meeting the wise bird had wanted to ask few questions but the District Officer (DO) (name withheld) never gave him the opportunity, insisting that nobody should ask any question or raise any point in respect of the meeting, bluffing that he has the last saying.
At that point, the wise bird was able to understand that, the District Officer was actually supporting one particular candidate. In fact, it was discovered that the big man used one of the teachers by the name of Joseph L. Koroma aka JLK to sell the 2022 tax receipts to people allegedly supporting one of the candidates contesting the Paramount Chieftaincy election at the detriment of the other contestants.
In fact, Mr.koroma was arrested and later released.
According to the chiefdom election Act, there should be revision of the Tribal Authorities (TAs) list every three years, and the last Gazette was in 2018.
This ugly development has put the chiefdom on fire as the authorities wants to impose one particular candidate on the people, which for all other reasons will create imminent chaos in the chiefdom.
It’s against this backdrop the wise and nationalistic bird wants to advice for a free, fair credible and transparent election so that its outcome will be accepted by all parties. Bra Parrot’s advice comes at a heel that the Electoral Commission is always at the centre of controversies when it comes to election matters.
The Wise Bird will follow this issue to the letter.
