In a release issued by the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) stated that it is constrained to report incidences of thefts in some of the company’s operational areas across the country.
A recent report indicated that in Kailahun, looters destroyed the control panel cables, but security interception (later overpowered) reported how the perpetrators left behind phones, clothes bags and other gadgets while trying to flee the scene unidentified.
According to report, the SALWACO Station Manager in Kailahun and team alerted the police regarding the ugly development.
The Regional Manager East said that investigation was in progress and that some suspects have already been arrested, helping the police with investigation.
“Activities of this nature should be discouraged in every respect. The looters almost destroyed the whole panel, causing a great loss and setback to the institution.
People tend to complain about services and water provision and now, acts of some unpatriotic people tend to cause even more issues,” he lamented.
SALWACO continues to call on the police to speed up the investigation while encouraging community policing measures to assist the security and traceable apparatuses that they have also upgraded.
Acts of this nature have the proclivity to undermine the growth and development in the water sector and so they should be discouraged at all cost.
