The wise bird had always strived to get cogent news in and out of the country even though sometimes the some are disturbing.

This time though Bra Parrot has been reliably informed that Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), an affiliate organization to the Sierra Leone Association of journalists (SLAJ) is not happy with the decision to have dismissed one of their members Madam Umu Thoronka by the management of  the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC).

According to what the bird gathered, the entire membership will be seeking redress at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) court of justice for their member.

The case according to the report is not only for one journalist but every other journalist across the board. WIMSAL, the report went on, will always stand by any female journalist as long as the matter for her dismissal is unlawful.

The report further alleged that, the victim Umu Thoronka had faced allegedly sexual harassment, intimidation and or victimization by a fraction of senior workers at the institution where she was working since 2024.

It is also alleged that, her dismissal was not only for a video clip from the Presidential town hall meeting that captured a woman asking President Bio regarding the cost of living in the country, she has been under pressure allegedly by her bosses for sexual favor in exchange for a permanent contact at the SLBC.

The report furthered alleged that, the victim was dismissed by a mere telephone call without hearing her own side of the matter, citing section 23 on protection of the law and section 25 of freedom of expression.

The report further alleged that, sexual harassment falls within the prohibition of the sexual offences Act of 2012 (as amended in 2019).

From the bird’s investigations, Women in the Media (WIMSAL) will do everything humanly possible to get justice for their member and other members when the need arises.

However, the bird tried to get on to the President of WIMSAL Madam Eastine Taylor to clarify or confirm the allegations but to no avail.

As usual, when it comes to sensitive issues, the bird will go out to get the views of others because he doesn’t know everything. And, all those the bird came in contact with expressed dismay over the attitude of those so-called senior members at the SLBC.

They revealed that Madam Umu Thoronka is not the only person that has been dismissed unlawfully by the institution only that, others did not talk or raised up the matter with the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, the bird has assured to follow the matter to the letter more so when it involves a journalist or any issue related to members of the PRESS in general.
