A young and dynamic Station Manager of SLBC Radio 94.1 FM Magburaka, Mohamed Adam Junior Kamara has been widely praised by residents, visitors as well as stakeholders for his tireless efforts to revitalize the SLBC Radio station to an enviable level in the region to everyone’s admiration.
His dedication to work and leadership display is said to have significantly improved the station, earning him the accolade as a ‘transformative force’ in regional broadcasting.
Under Kamara’s stewardship, the SLBC Magburaka building which was almost on the brink of collapse has been renovated and modernized. Residents and visitors alike have commended the young man for his commitment to ensuring the station remains fit for purpose, a testament to his passion for journalism and service to the community.
When Mohamed Adam Junior Kamara was appointed Station Manager by the Director General and Board Members of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), he described the appointment as “a blessing from God and a timely reward” for his years of dedication. His journey at SLBC began as a volunteer, progressing through roles as a cub reporter, presenter, and senior producer over a span of nearly 12 years.
Reflecting on his career, Kamara recalled that his first monthly salary was a modest ten leones (NLe10), an amount that has been increased. He dedicated his promotion to the people of his home district and young aspiring journalists, encouraging them to work hard and pursue their dreams, emphasizing that, “the age of Methuselah has nothing to do with the wisdom of King Solomon.”
As a youngest station manager in the northern region, Kamara has ambitious plans for SLBC Magburaka. He aims to expand the journalism space at the station the only radio outlet in his hometown while upholding professionalism, ethical reporting, and adherence to state laws. His commitment aligns with the SLBC operational guidelines, the Independent Media Commission (IMC) codes, and the principles of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists.
Kamara underscored that SLBC Magburaka serves as a crucial regional broadcasting platform, providing factual news and up-to-date information to the people of Sierra Leone. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a well-functioning and reputable media outlet that serves the public interest.
Many have lauded Kamara’s achievements in modernizing the station. Osman Tarawally, a media enthusiast, described the current state of SLBC Magburaka as “ideal and fit for purpose.” He commended the station’s upgraded infrastructure, improved facilities, and Kamara’s hands-on approach to journalism.
“Kamara is a trailblazer in regional journalism.” He doesn’t just manage the station from his office; he actively seeks out important stories, which has significantly enhanced his media career,” Tarawally added.
Memunatu Pratt, who recently visited the station for a radio show, also praised its transformation, describing it as “a modern media establishment.” Many other visitors have echoed similar sentiments, thanking Kamara for his unwavering commitment to quality journalism in the region.
With a clear vision and a dedication to excellence, Mohamed Adam Junior Kamara is undoubtedly setting a new standard for regional broadcasting in Sierra Leone. His leadership at SLBC Magburaka serves as an inspiration for young journalists and a beacon of progress for the media landscape in the country.
