At least the Ministry of Sports now has a female Sports Minister as the country progresses to the mainstream gender soccer in Africa and the world as a whole.
Over the weekend, the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation (SLBF) paid courtesy call on the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima at her Bishop House office in Freetown in a bid to interface and discuss issues surrounding the welfare and financial challenges within the basketball family across the country.
President of the Federation, Joseph Nyande, expressed delighted and pledged their total support, adding that the they have confidence in the Minister and her entire team, and with their absolute support they will surely succeed, he noted.
He furthered gave an update about their success stories at local and international level, outlining their challenges in taking part in international tournaments over the years in terms of logistics, finance, capacity building, empowerment etc.
Nyande info the Minister about their just concluded Western Area Basketball Association polls and also confirmed to the Minister that he’s not going to contest for President anymore.
“I am going to take an advisory position.”
In her comments, Madam Minister expressed appreciations to the executive for the visit and for the comprehensive update of their activities. Nothing that the challenges will be address due to the planning the Ministry is about to introduce especially in the ranking system mechanism that will qualify associations to receive monies or supports from government”, the Minister said.
She commended them for standing tall and assured the Executive of her timely support and commitment at all times.
