The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) have reaffirmed their commitments to strengthening national security through enhanced collaboration. They made the commitments during a one-day workshop held at the Wizard Complex in Bo City on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
The workshop which is part of a broader initiative to foster inter-agency cooperation aims to strengthen ties among security forces across the country.
It marks a renewed effort to enhance joint operations, information sharing, and to explore community-based strategies for security.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Sahr Yomba Senesie, who is representing the Inspector General of Police, highlighted the longstanding collaboration between the SLP and RSLAF, particularly during the civil war and in its aftermath.
He referenced their joint efforts in tackling the rebel insurgencies, thus curbing cross-border crime, while facilitating disarmament and reintegration processes in the country at the time.
“Over the years, our partnership has played a critical role in preserving national security,” DIGP Senesi said.
“Though we witnessed a slowdown in inter-agency engagement around 2010, this workshop is part of a renewed nationwide effort to revitalize that collaboration.”
Under the leadership of Inspector General William Fayia Sellu and Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Amara Idara Bangura, he said the scope of the initiative has expanded to include the Sierra Leone Correctional Services and the Sierra Leone Fire Force—reflecting a more inclusive approach to maintaining national security.
Brigadier General SDT Ngaujah, Chief of General Staff, who represents the Chief of Defence Staff, reiterated Armed Forces’ commitment to national development and for a secured future.
He emphasized that similar trainings and joint workshops will be conducted in other regions thereby reinforcing inter-agency cooperation at all levels.
The event marks a significant step in rebuilding and strengthening the operational synergy among Sierra Leone’s security institutions with the hope to ensure peace and stability across Sierra Leone.
