Quarters within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have indicated that, the ongoing lower level elections of the party is not only undemocratic but it ended in violence and burning of houses of their party members.
Some party stalwarts have expressed their dissatisfaction for what they perceived as new SLPP that have been subjected to mockery and act of violence against each other.
“The party we used to say is democratic and abide by the rules of law has been transformed into a party of hatred” Barnard Sanusi from Kenema stated.
Sources within the party have informed that, even some prominent party tycoons and a member of the Bar association have tried to abrogate the rules of elections in her favour.
Many grassroots supporters of the SLPP are disgruntled that the election are undemocratic which has the tendency to not only derailed the democratic principles but it has the propensity to influence further mayhem for the not too distance elections in 2028.
Many attributed the ongoing lower level elections as a mere recipe for disaster for the SLPP landslide victory come the next national elections.
According to one Allusine Moiwa from Gbanghatoke, who currently reside in Grafton, the manner in which the party is conducting this election can tell that what happened to the APC in 2018 is about to repeat in the SLPP.
He said the APC lost elections in 2018 because of this manner of conducting elections wherein the favorite candidates were sideline.
Moiwa lamented over such mishaps that has the tendency for the SLPP to go into opposition come next elections.
One Ansu Tommy told this medium that history is about to repeat itself wherein party stalwarts can no longer look for popular candidates or the choice of the people but they are merely choosing candidates for their personal reasons.
He opined that most of the grassroots supporters have threatened to defect to the APC, if the SLPP hierarchy of the party continues with undemocratic behaviour.
In Tonkolli District, Pa Alfred Tholley of Magbass village attributed the burning of houses as inimical to the current economic situation.
Therefore, he urged stakeholders to tell their supporters to stop the wrangling within the party.
Moreover, the lower level elections continue but the faith of the SLPP party in 2028 remains uncertain.
