The Wise Bird has noticed of late that, most of the press releases issued by both the government and political parties, are now been sent to him, being the most respectable statesman in this Republic.
This is a step in the right direction; it shows that, democracy is at work because governments and political parties’ activities should not in any way be secret to the people.
The patient bird has taken patience to read some of the releases carefully for better interpretation to the people.
In one of the releases from the National Executive Council (NEC) of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party, the second highest decision making body of the party dated 20th December, 2024 was meant to find ways to stabilize the party for future elections and other activities within the party structure.
At the meeting members of National Executive Council (NEC) took a very strong position by way of bringing sanity into the party and admonished members to always do what is necessary for the progress of the party.
The release stated that Council members present extended the life span of the party executive and other positions for a period of six (6) months to enable them put things in place in the interest of the party.
In the release, the National Executive Council (NEC) also made it abundantly clear that, no member (s) is permitted to campaign for whatever position in the party for now.
Any member (s) flouting these instructions will face disciplinary Committee for appropriate action.
The release also cited Act No.6 of the 1991 Constitution sub-section (2) of section 35 that, their internal organization conforms to democratic principles.
Even though press statements are sometimes authentic, but because the bird does not know everything, he therefore went out as usual to get the views of other people.
Immediately after reading the press statement, the bird flew straight to the headquarters of the ruling party where the release comes from to get the views of party members.
The bird got mixed reactions on the release; some described it as a step in the right direction and that, NEC should stand firm by whatever decision they have already taken, whilst others said it is a way of trying to sideline other people in the race.
The brave bird is watching as things unfold.
