Like many other development–oriented citizen who wants development and betterment of every community and people across the country devoid of politics, region, religion or tribe, the Patriotic Bird has been following the activities in the Fourah Bay community to find out how much they have benefited in terms of development from their previous and present elected members.
Please don’t ask me I’m not talking about representatives from one political party. In fact, that is the very reason why even though I always exercise my franchise, (right to vote) but I don’t normally argue politics. (Because inside Salone, quick people don label you. Nor menam, de man nar Yellow, e wan cam tok buku).
However, the Wise Bird undertook this venture purely on the basis of the boastfulness of supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party who, even before the June 2023 general elections had boasted that their party will take development to that community to negate the effort of other parties who had been in power but did little or nothing.
Say what you may, it goes without saying that, the Fourah Bay Community though a very strong support base for the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) of recent, still largely lag behind in terms of development for the last five years.
For more than two decades, the wise bird has observed that all the political parties that have governed the country did not do anything serious for the community, despite the huge support they used to get from their respective supporters.
The wise bird is very much concerned about the deplorable condition of the community mainly because of its strategic location and some of the important public facilities, including the famous Queen Elizabeth II Quay (Water Quay) it hosts.
But in spite of its significance, it still cannot even boast of any good road, water supply remains a very serious problem for the inhabitants especially women, children and school going children who often stray the streets up to 2:00am in search of water. Of course there is nothing to write home about electricity supply, because far as light is concerned, it comes intermittently and sometimes even destroy people’s electrical appliances.
Bra Parrot is of the view that, the benefit of politics is not in heaven but here on planet earth. So if supporters of political parties in Fourah Bay community cannot enjoy those benefits now when will they? Bra Parrot is curious to know because he cares about every single Sierra Leonean.
During one of his routine visits to the community, the anxious Bird came in contact with some senior SLPP supporters who expressed disappointment over the situation.
They lamented that their party is not treating them as true supporters as expected considering the fact that despite their bogusness, they have not benefitted as individual not to talk of the community. “We are made a laughing stock in this community,” they angrily expressed, adding that the party has completely forgotten about them.
In anger, these despondent supporters told the Patient Bird about some streets in the community that are in a deplorable state, Dan Street, Davies Street and Abbot Street just to name a few.
They claimed that their party has put them to shame by totally neglecting their affairs, noting that they are even ashamed of standing in the open to talk about it for fear on being mocked.
However, they still believe that with the intervention of the most reputable and nationalistic Bird, this narrative will change sooner than later.
