Governments have come and gone, but the Fourah bay community still remains and continues to remain completely back-ward at every given time.
From all indications, the community does not need to be neglected by the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
The Fourah bay community like other communities is situated in the East-end of Freetown the capital city of Sierra Leone, which is just few yards to State House but yet still the authorities concerned cannot see the community for any future developments.
This community completely remains back-ward in terms of infrastructural development to say the least.
Since the SLPP came to power almost five years have elapsed and no form of development has ever been brought to the community, let alone to talk about the welfare of the people.
Pipe borne water shortage, electricity and all other things in the community are nothing good to write home about, school going children are up on the streets till 2:00am in search of tap water and electricity in the community is intermittent.
Accusing fingers are pointing at senior members of the SLPP in the community notably the Member of Parliament, Constituency Chairman and the Constituency Secretary General as responsible for the deplorable condition of their community.
However, the present hand-picked Member of Parliament Mohamed Koyo Kamara representing Constituency 122 where the community is situated is not even a resident of the constituency. And that is a clear indication that he knows very little or nothing about the community, despite, according to sources, he was born and bred in the community.
The Fourah bay community is being considered as one of the strongholds of the SLPP in the western urban area and yet still, the SLPP neglected the community in totality. And to say the least, the party has little or no respect for the community.
If the government is ready and willing to work in the best interest of the people and by extension the community, devoid of tribalism, sectionalism and favoritism, it should be seen to spread out all forms of development nationwide and not just to select some few areas within the western urban.
It is incumbent on the SLPP government to improve on the welfare of the people in that community and the country as a whole.
According to analytical survey conducted by Africa24 newspaper, about 75% of the people in the community are considered to be supporters and sympathizers of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
But today, a good number of people supporting SLPP in that community are disgruntled with the Party and the Party’s activities.
