The Parliamentary Learning and Sharing Series Team led by Director Mohamed Jalloh on Monday 27 January, 2025 recognized and awarded the Hon Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas for contributing to innovative leadership by ensuring that the welfare and capacity building of Parliamentary Staff are central under his watch.
The meritorious award was presented to Mr. Speaker in his office at Parliament at Tower Hill in Freetown.
Presenting the Award to the Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas, Director Mohamed Jalloh recalled that in May 2024, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh approached the Parliamentary Learning and Sharing Series Team, informing them that Mr. Speaker was very curious and passionate about the enhancement of staff capacity building and development.
He said such curiosity from Mr. Speaker precipitated the establishment of the Parliamentary Learning and Sharing Series wherein, bi-weekly sessions were held on specific days on Wednesdays.
Director Jalloh continued that various topics were selected based on staff capacity wherein twelve Learning Series Engagements were conducted. He updated Mr. Speaker that the average staff attendance was two hundred and forty-eight (248).
He mentioned that some of the topics presented by facilitators in and out of Parliament include Corporate Dress Code, International Learning Sharing Experience, and Retirement Planning.
Director Jalloh concluded by confessing that the Parliamentary Learning and Sharing Series came from Mr. Speaker which was the more reason why the Team thought it compelling to recognize and award him for such an impactful and lingering initiative towards staff development.
In his gratifications for such recognition and award, Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas thanked the Parliamentary Learning and Sharing Series Team for the award.
Speaker Thomas acknowledged that the Team worked exactly in consonance with the leadership vision of Parliament.
Speaker Thomas assured the Team that the Leadership of Parliament is extremely proud of the work done by the Team and reminded that ever since he took over as Speaker of the House, he had seen an inevitable change of attitude of staff towards work.
“Let me assure you all that I will continue to stand in the middle to ensure that everybody is comfortable. Thank you very much”, Speaker Thomas concluded.
