The Deputy Speaker of Parliament who doubles as the Chairman of the Public Account Committee (PAC) in Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has announced that his committee will go on a recess on Friday 13th September 2024.
“The members in my committee whom I consider as foot soldiers want to rest and will resume work after the recess,” he said.
According to Hon Tawa Conteh his committee has recovered lots of monies and there are more monies awaiting to be paid in the consolidated revenue fund (CRF).
He pointed out MDAs left by PAC on tax collection will be called upon after the recess on October next month.
The Deputy Speaker has also informed this medium that although the PAC main focus is to collect monies lost but will also focus on ensuring “institutional accountability.”
He said he believes after the PAC done with all of these institutions by next year any MDA that does not fulfill its mandate will be penalized such as asking it to pay some money as fine.
He maintained that people are giving responsibility but they do not perform the tasks of what they are employed for.
Hon Deputy Speaker went further to say that, his committee will stop at nothing in its quest to collect government missing monies.
“The most happiest moment in my life is when my Boss President Julius Maada Bio gave me the utmost free will to work. President Julius Maada Bio is a blessing for Sierra Leone and he wants the best for his people and my committee will help the President to deliver,” Hon Tawa said.
He said as a committee they also want the next audit report to be issued out in public without having many financial mismanaged issues about MDAs.
He also informed that his committee will recover all pennies that MDAs are not accounting there will be no compromise on any deviation.
Meanwhile, over 40 to 50 billions old leones have been collected by the PAC.
The committee is optimistic that by the time it finishes with collecting monies from MDAs, some billions and billions will have been collected from respective MDAs that are defaulting on tax payments.
