Both SLPP and APC MPs on Friday 13 June, 2025, shed tears during the opening of the book of condolence of SLPP MP, late Hon. Musa Peter Moigua at State Hall of Parliament in Freetown.
The ceremony was graced by many important personalities, including Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Madam Fatima Bio, Ministers of Government, Members of Parliament, bereaved family Members and friends.
Prior to the opening of the book of Condolence, the Knight of Saint John handed over the mortal remains of the deceased to Parliament, in light of befitting burial.
Giving the purpose of declaration, the Director of Parliamentary and Public Relations, Sheku Lamin Turay, told distinguished mourners and family members that Hon. Musa Peter Moigua was a developmental specialist in the Non-Governmental Organizations, a political activist and a Member of Parliament representing Kenema District. He emphasized that the deceased was a good debater and a lovely father.
It was revealed by the Director of Public Relations that President Bio had already signed the book of condolence, followed by the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, Leader of Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, Deputy Leader of Government Business, Hon. Bashiru Silikie, Deputy Leader of Opposition, Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma, Deputy Chief Whip One, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay, amongst others. The First Lady also signed the book of condolence.
In his tribute, the Leader of Government Business said no one should fear to join the rank of the dead and categorically stated that the deceased was an open minded person and a philanthropist who fervently supported the SLPP and became young generation Leader and later National Organizing Secretary of the party. He thanked President Bio for the support he gave to the late MP during his health challenge.
“Brother Knight, you serve humanity,” he stated and advised all and sundry to mourn like believers in unity and love.
On his part, the Secretary General of the SLPP, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, said the deceased was a man who always speaks his mind freely. He recalled their conversation three days prior to his death. He explained many good things about the deceased party loyalty and service delivery.
“His death really touched me,” he revealed.
Opposition Leader in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo predicated on the positive characteristics of the deceased and reflected on his contributions to debate in Parliament. He described the deceased as someone who was intelligent in his debate. “He cut across political party lines,”he informed and told mourners that late MP had passion for his SLPP but never hurt others.
The Opposition Leader used the tribute as an opportunity to appeal through the First Lady to help Parliament have predictability health care support.
“The health of Members of Parliament should be a priority,” he said.
He also advised the bereaved family to mourn like believers.
Musa Peter Moigua Jr. who gave tribute on behalf of the family, said in solemnity that his father was not just a father but a mentor, and explained his relationship with him. He recalled several good memories and love between him and his father and the entire family. He told distinguished mourners that his father was a man who believed in love and helped many people. “He was a man of trust,” he told the audience. “Above all, our Dad was a selfless man,” he recalled several good deeds of his father.
In his tribute, a close friend, Dr. James Vibbie explained the life of the deceased from obscurity to prominence. He told the mourning audience about the deceased interaction with youths and philanthropist. “He was a man with very strong character and loving,” he emphasized and spoke about his popularity, generosity, and knowledge in accountancy.
Closing the tribute, Her Excellency Madam Fatima Maada Bio categorically stated that the deceased was a close friend and a brother. She described the late Hon. Moigua as an honest politician, reflecting on their interactions. She also recalled her last conversation with the deceased.
“I know the journey he went through in this House of Parliament,” she expressed. She used the opportunity to respond to earlier tribute and said the deceased was dedicated to all services.
The ceremony was climaxed by the laying of wreaths by the First Lady, Leaderships of Parliament, Clerk of Parliament, and other distinguished mourners.
