The race to the State House of Sierra Leone is the current power struggle in the country between the two prominent dominant parties in the country.
The All People’s Congress (APC) and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
Sierra Leoneans are currently witnessing a polarized political landscape and the heightening of a national partisan divisive politics which are the central core of our time.
This race is a repeat contest between the two political rivals of President Julius Maada Bio of the SLPP and Samura Wilson Kamara of the APC.
The two leaders are well prepared and determined to go into this race in their epochal time.
As for the incumbent President, the race is a reality of a sustainable development, while for the opposing APC it is a valiant struggle against the SLPP Party and trying to stifle its achievement.
With the demise of the APC Party in the 2018 election, the hubris that surge amongst the supporters and members has created anxiety over the SLPP with a vague consensus of fear of losing the general election than by a vision that constitutes victory.
But the defining moment and themes of this general election is the imperative policy concerns of the people of Sierra Leone like the Cost of-Living crisis and the sustainable development that plays a critical role in the lives of the ordinary citizens of Sierra Leone.
The APC can no longer dwell on its past history and pretend to be master of its own fate. They should respond to the political realism of our times and be skeptical in defining the state of our country without retreating into any more frivolous promises , propaganda and brutal patriotism.
But the All People’s Congress Party of Samura Wilson Kamara promised that, there would be no “empty Promises” when spouting his rhetoric about his proposed reforms and policies, and he promised to govern for all Sierra Leoneans during his mammoth gathering during his return trip from New York. But in reality, he is yet pushing for tribal and regional bigotry and marginalizing the South- Easterners with his party.
Even if his promises is something to go by, he has little time to campaign before his big electoral test comes as his criminal court case is still hanging over his head.
The big question now is, will he be exonerated from his criminal court case?
Mr. Samura Wilson Kamara is yet facing a great dilemma within his own Political circles where there is the saying, he is merely a “holding” flag bearer.
Is this a provoked claim of hypocrisy?
But yet still the party is trying to satisfy their candidate and his supporters as they are seemingly craving for an insatiable entertainment on the social media.
As for the incumbent President Julius Maada Bio, Sierra Leoneans have upheld his phlegmatic style of governance through his renewable developmental projects.
This general election will certainly be a non- trivial probability as populism has become synonym to anger in our politics.
As a country, we should not be allowed to be defined by our history. We are still recuperating with our nascent democracy and trying to enjoy the normal political tranquility of the road to the robust national revival although it seems to be difficult to navigate.
The coming general election will serve as a chance for national atonement within the rival political parties? Perhaps. but certainly not as everything looks grubby and disunited with vengeance.
But for the New Direction Government, it is a combination of gloom and gallows humour as the party has been enjoying and boasted of their sustainable developments undertaken within the entire country with an unprecedented peace, Unity, and Untrammelled success.
But with the current situation that is unfolding, it’s hard to think of a suitable metaphor for the ruling SLPP Party for the remaining months to the general election.
For the opposition, the untrustworthiness is a syndrome of leadership within the party. A leader that can be rectified with a person of integrity and greater character.
When vying for the highest office in the land , the leader must possess the integrity the office demands. Searching for such quality of an ideal politician within the Opposition APC Party can end in disappointment.
There is something pathetic in our country’s politics that has never happened in the history of our country, and that is to a presidential flag bearer of a political party vying for the highest office in our land that is under criminal probe.
This general election is going to be a great fight for the future of our country, Sierra Leone.
Historically as the SLPP Party believes in a strong country with Unity, but yet still president Julius Maada Bio needs to buck up with his party policies more on the cost- of- living crisis and the sustainable development.
Above all President Bio should emphasize and work on the constraints on the Cost – Of – Living crisis which is the bitter harvest beacon, and also show the people of Sierra Leone that, the ruling SLPP Party can achieve a sustainable growth, and find a brighter language of strong national Unity.
But let’s take a moment to reflect, and recognize that, president Julius Maada Bio inherited a fractured economy, and has experienced a critical test of our times on behalf of the citizens of Sierra Leone.
As the battle to the State House intensifies between the two octogenarian parties. we shouldn’t panic as it’s all just a squeaky-time burning with a dazzling opportunity that await us all.
!! LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE OF SIERRA LEONE.
!! GOD BLESS US ALL!!
