Wonders never end as day-in-day-out negative things are unfolding especially within the police force.
The police who are supposed to be protecting lives and properties are allegedly deeply engaged in armed robbery exercise in the country.
As the most respected bird was reading the dailies, the bird came across with a newspaper dated 13th September, 2024 with its headline “4 Sierra Leone Police (SLP)[men] face dismissal”.
To many it was a surprise and to some it was not a surprise to them as it is not a new thing for police officers to get themselves involved in armed robbery cases.
The Wise Bird did not want to know where the incident might have taken place, what is important in this is that it is like the Sierra Leone Police officers are turning into armed robbers these days. This is according to the newspaper report on that story.
The report further stated that, four (4) constables 16445 Saidu Sonny Lahai, 21015 Rodney Mansaray (aka) junior, 22034 Richard Yambasu (aka) Alphantic, and 22667 Patrick Rogers (aka) bogor-borbor are all accused of collaborating with criminals in robbing certain places or so.
The above named officers are all from Operational Supports Division (OSD), and this is a clear show that, police officers are deeply involved in armed robbery in the country.
The bird was made to understand that, before their alleged dismissal, the Police Complaints Board and Internal Investigations Department CDIID) did an internal investigation into the matter.
Inspector Ibrahim Bah was head of the investigations and he subsequently recommended for dismissal of the suspected police armed robbers until pending the approval by the Inspector General of Police for further action to be taken against them.
The bird was reliably informed that, during the investigations it came clearly that, constable Saidu Sonny Lahai was also accused for the murder of one Hassan Lamin who is a bike mechanic living in Bo city. Before his death constable Patrick Rogers was also accused of maintaining close communication with the alleged robbers.
Pending their dismissal, the said officers are also subject to criminal investigations and should be charge to court if need be.
The bird only hopes that, the no-nonsense Inspector General of Police will set one of the brightest examples on them because his guys have become rotten eggs in the force now known to be a service.
On this issue, however, the bird sounded the views of people on the streets, those boarding kekehs, those sitting in pubs, in cinema halls and they all expressed dismay over the attitude of the officers, saying they are not fit to be in the force or service any longer.
Before the incident of armed robbery, another police officer (OSD) was allegedly dismissed for beating mercilessly his girlfriend, and it is as though the police are notorious for doing bad things these days.
Some people even asked whether the SLP is a force that worth its name “a force for good?”
The question the Wise Bird wants to ask is that, should we call the police a force for good or we find another name for them.
