Forty-year old Sheku Jimmy, a Supervisor luggage officer, thirty-eight year old Hassan Kamara, a cashier and forty-one year old Mohamed Kamara a cashier, made another appearance before Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh of Pademba Road court No.5 in Freetown on two count charges to wit conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and embezzlement contrary to section 17 (1) (b) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on a date unknown between 12th February and 1st April 2025 at Lungi International Airport terminal Lungi, in the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom in the Port Loko judicial District, Northwest Region in Freetown with intent to defraud, conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime
Count two further stated that on the same date and place the accused persons fraudulently embezzled sixty three Sea Coach tickets each cost $45 dollars all equivalent to seventy three thousand seven hundred and ten Leones (73,710,00) received by them without authorization from Sea Coach Express management
When the charges were read and explained to the accused persons no plea taken.
Sergeant 5598 Santigie Koroma led prosecution witness number two Micah Tanimu a Technician attached to Sea Coach as operations manager, he recognized all the accused persons who were working at Sea Coach Airport branch. He recalled on 26th March 2025 he was on duty at the head office at Sir Samuel Lewis Road Aberdeen when something transpired between himself and the accused persons on the above date after he went to work around 9:10pm. He said he received telephone call from one I.T officer named Abdul Sankoh reporting of an incident involving tickets. He told him that he will meet him in the morning the following day. He said when he got to work on 27th March 2025 himself and the I.T officer Mr. Sankoh met and discussed the way forward on how to track the tickets based on the information they received. He furthered that a preliminary investigation was to check if the tickets were used. The witness said it was total of ten tickets they discovered and all the ten tickets had been used and all was issued by Mohamed Kamara the third accused person. The witness said by the evidence conducted through their system they concluded that they will go to Lungi to investigate who gave the tickets to the third accused person. He added that before getting to Lungi they discovered that the ten tickets were in possession of the accused person on his phone they asked the third accused person how he got the tickets he initially told them that he got them from the first accused person whilst they were speaking with the third accused the first accused arrived at Lungi from Freetown and met them at the scene. He said they immediately called his attention that the third accused had said he sent the tickets to him but the first accused denied the third accused later said it was the second accused that sent the tickets to him that is how the second accused became part of the investigation. The second accused confirmed that he sent the tickets to the third accused. He said he then ask the second accused how he got the tickets he told them that it was the first accused who sent it to him and the first accused confirmed sending the tickets to the second accused person. The witness said when they asked the first accused person how he got the tickets he said he got it from Mr Bangura who he knew as a customer. He said they asked him if he can provide Mr Bangura and the first accused said yes. He said they asked the 3rd accused person for the tickets that was sold in the sum of four hundred and fifty dollars he said he handed over the money to the second accused person and when they asked the second accused he said he sent it to the first accused via orange money. The first accused confirmed he received the money but he sent it to Mr Bangura. At that juncture, the witness said that they took the accused persons to the business centre where the money transacted to confirm. The witness said when they got there, the man in charge recognized the second accused and confirmed the transaction they later took snapshot of the evidence of the transaction at this juncture the prosecutor sought for a short adjournment date to print out the said photos of evidence of the transaction as evidence which will be tendered.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Gbloh adjourned the matter to the 1st July, 2025 for further hearing and bail continue for all accused persons.
