Former Deputy National Secretary General of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Hon. Osman Timbo Esq., and Member of Parliament representing the Western Area Urban District, has told members of the Press Gallery that if he becomes president of Sierra Leone, he will discard the Proportional Representation system.
“I will revert to the constituency system which gives the electorates the right to choose their MPs and councilors in their localities. As it is now, the PR System deprived many communities of representatives,” he said.
MP Timbo who officially resigned from his position as deputy National Secretary General of the party has told journalists that he is prepared to face the challenge and ready to bring progressive reforms in governance.
Timbo’s resignation was announced at a press conference held on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025 and became effective immediately.
Addressing the media at his office, Hon. Osman Timbo Esq. confirmed that he will run for the APC flagship position come 2026.
He expressed deep gratitude to the APC leadership, party members and supporters for the confidence they had placed in him over the years.
He reechoed that his tenure had been marked by dedicated service to both the party and the nation.
In his earlier submissions, Hon. Osman Timbo Esq. acknowledged the support of his colleagues, particularly the National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya, the National Chairman and other executive members of the party.
He also extended appreciation to Dr. Samura Kamara for his leadership in the 2023 elections, which he described as having been unfairly taken from the people of Sierra Leone.
“This decision to step aside at this moment has not been an easy one, especially considering the pivotal role I have been playing, but it is a necessary one. I have always lived by the principle of fairness and with the upcoming activities within the party, I believe that stepping down from this position will help maintain the integrity of the Secretariat and ensure a fair and level playing field for all,” Hon. Osman Timbo added.
Despite resigning from his position, he reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and stated that he would continue to work towards strengthening the party and contributing to the development of Sierra Leone.
“Let it be known that I am not leaving politics, nor am I leaving the APC. I remain fully committed to the party and will continue to do my best to support and strengthen it,” he emphasized.
According to an official resignation letter dated March 12, 2025, and addressed to the APC National Secretary General, Hon. Timbo explained that his decision was motivated by a desire to explore new political opportunities while ensuring fairness in the party’s upcoming internal elections.
“My resignation from this role is necessitated by my desire to pursue new steps in my political journey. I recognize that continuing in my present position may compromise the integrity of the Secretariat and the leadership’s commitment to ensuring a level playing field in the upcoming internal party elections. Furthermore, stepping down at this time will afford me the necessary space to adequately focus on my next political steps,” the letter further states.
The opposition lawmaker, widely known as “Youngest” within the political sphere, has played a significant role within the APC. He was a principal draftsman of the party’s 2022 constitution and has contributed immensely to key technical works executed by the Secretariat. He was elected as Deputy National Secretary General in February 2023 and has since been actively engaged in shaping the party’s policies and strategies.
A well-respected lawyer and politician, Hon. Timbo is also the Proprietor of ABT Law: Barristers and Solicitors. He has built a reputation for his commitment to fairness, integrity and public service.
As he moves into a new phase of his political career, he has assured Sierra Leoneans of his continued dedication to national progress.
“Sierra Leone’s best days are ahead and through determination, courage and collective effort, we will build a nation that prospers for all. I urge every Sierra Leoneans to dream big, believe in our unity and achieve greatness through perseverance,” he said.
He concluded by wishing the nation a blessed Ramadan and Lenten season, emphasizing unity and commitment to national development.
