Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) has mounted its corporate excellence in the country’s banking industry as it now secure the enviable position as the most profitable commercial bank in Sierra
Leone, overtaking all competitors for the Financial Year 2022. This laurel has been accredited to the innovative and strategic managerial skills of the Managing Director, Yusufu Abdul Silla.
The forthright MD Silla had set the impetus amongst staff for this accomplishment; “Since joining the bank in February this year (2022),
my ambition is to reposition the bank and make it sound, not only financially but in all aspects of its business. At my first town hall meeting with you, I posed three questions which I challenged you to
ponder and always strive to find answers to: Where are we as a Bank? Where do we want to be as a bank? How do we get there as a Bank?”
The management and staff served as the MD’s excellent frontrunners for such an upward trajectory to the successes of the Bank. The MD’s maiden statement has yielded results within a year. SLCB had
prioritized customers’ satisfaction since inception as the first indigenous bank since 1973 with a hundred percent Sierra Leonean ownership.
The bank had steadily matched up with contemporary banking industry indicators include; Return on Capital Employed, Return on Assets, Loan to Deposit Ratio, Balance Sheet Size, Regulatory Capital,
Profitability, Customers’ Turnover and other indicators.
The Bank commands a fortress-like balance sheet with the largest in assets, steadily maintaining its aspirations on the lead spot in the banking industry. SLCB has the largest customer base and operations
spread out nationwide leveraging on its assets for profit. The bank’s transformation agenda is driven by its mantra; “Delivering value to all stakeholders.” The bank’s engine, drive and momentum is embedded
in the mind-set, measures and actions across the organization and its strategy is not only focused on creating products; but to keep experimenting to identify valuable solutions for its esteemed customers.
