One of the popular outspoken and longstanding human rights activists in Sierra Leone, has negates the widespread belief that the country has been divided along tribe line.
Mr. Charles Mambu who was on Friday 13th October, 2023 making contributions at the ongoing budget presentation at the Ministry of Finance in Freetown, insisted that the country is neither divided on political, economic nor tribal affiliation, but rather largely by the dilapidated condition of our roads.
“The bad road network without any doubt is principally responsible for disconnection of people within the same tribe, same district and region,” the right activist stressed. He referenced eastern region as a typical example where people in Kono district would prefer to travel to northern region to transact their business rather than to Kailahun or Kenema in the region as a result of bad roads.
Mr. Mambu said it’s easier to travel from Kono to Makeni because of the tarmac roads, than from the same point to Kenema within the same region on the contrast reason.
To solve this age old problem and importantly to use it as a very strong and powerful instrument for the realization of the “Feed Salone Initiative, Mr. Mambu said it’s high time the government gave the issue the seriousness it deserves and fix the roads without further delay.
