In frequency regional records of thefts against peoples’ property, the police have pointed out east of Freetown to be recording the highest number of criminal cases occurring these days, second by west of Freetown.
The police report read out to journalists said Western Area is now a hub for criminal activities.
“The offences are ranging from economic and the report emphasizes for the public to know all crimes which occur during the course of any economic or business activity,” a senior police officer stated.
The police report stated that these offences do not only inflict pecuniary losses on individuals but the acts by criminals also damage the national economy and have security implications in the country as well.
The report went further to highlight the latest offences which include smuggling of narcotic substances, counterfeiting of currency, financial scams, fraud and money laundering, etc.
According to the report about 3,992 economic offences were reported and investigated just in 2023, a situation which calls for insecurity alarm.
The police said Freetown- east recorded 1,240 cases; while Freetown-west had 1,860 cases; north-east received 275 cases; whereas north-west accounted for 198 cases; south recorded 222 cases and eastern region investigated 197 cases.
