After 4 matches with 1 win, 2 draws, 3 losses Leone Stars have only got 5 points in a thrilling World Cup Qualifier competition.
Sierra Leone’s stars staged a notable comeback against Burkina Faso, securing a better 2-2 draw on Monday.
The first half saw Burkina Faso dominating, thus scoring two fast goals in quick succession. Dango Outtara capitalized on a defensive error in the 41st minute, putting his team ahead.
Just before halftime, Lassina Traore doubled their lead, sending the Stallions into the half-time with a seemingly comfortable advantage.
Nevertheless, the Leone Stars rejected to give up. The tide began to turn in the 58th minute when Augustus Kargbo found the net from a corner kick. The goal reignited Sierra Leone’s fighting spirit, and they pushed relentlessly for an equalizer. Their efforts paid off in the 87th minute when Amadou Bakayoko unleashed a powerful shot from outside the area, leaving the Burkina Faso goalkeeper chanceless.
The final minutes were a tense affair with both teams desperate for a winner. However, the scoreline remained unchanged, resulting in a share of the spoils. This draw keeps both teams in contention for a World Cup qualification spot, thus setting the stage for an exciting race in the group stage.
