After careful and intensive study of major coup d’états in the Serra Leone, Mr. Parrot, the oldest and most respectable historian in the country who has been following the political activities in the country since 1980s has observed that the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) is the worst so far.
The coup comprising mainly young soldiers from the war front, led by Captain Valentine Esigrabo Melvin Strasser, took power from the All People’s Congress (APC) party on April 29, 1992, with the vague reason that the government had abandoned them at the front.
Bad governance, corruption, human rights abuse, poor education, poor health infrastructure, and hunger among other vices were some of the reasons these young coupists advanced to win the hearts, minds and souls of the people including the patient bird who was watching the situation keenly but with skepticism.
No doubt about it, people welcomed them with open arms and fell prey to their baits especially when they promised to pursue the raging war to its logical conclusion.
But don’t mistake! The wise and experienced animal was not among that number because he always studies situation carefully before making correct decision, which is why he is not only an ordinary elder but a reputable statesman who gives advice to governments when he observes that things are going wrong.
“Oh my God, these young boys who had no central command or control made the old patient animal laughed his ribs out when they bluffed that they were going to change things for the better, he knew they lacked the capacity and capability to do so.”
And before people knew it, the boys proved the Respectable Animal right by first of all dividing themselves into splinter groups-Ranger, Cobra; you name them and were controlled by different commanders not to fight war but to loot people’s property, to forcefully take people’s wives from them and among other evils and they unleashed atrocities on innocent civilians they were supposed to protect.
You now see what I mean when I said NPRC is one of the worst coups the country has experienced because it reneged completely from what it promised. To be fair to them, they started well but ended up very poorly by abandoning the war and turned their attention to plundering the country resources instead.
Like the NPRC coup, the Wise Bird has also noticed that the governing SLPP government, which the current president was part of are similar in action in that they are far from achieving their goals of kicking other governments.
Nor vex per the Wise Bird ooh he is not compelling anyone to accept his individual views that the current president has not been able to do what he promised over the last five years.
In fact, he is afraid if that will be possible, given the way things are going with ever skyrocketing of essential commodities which are making life very unbearable for the ordinary man.
So it is left with you now to accept what the experienced Bird has narrated as the adage says: “everyone has the right to carve his own destiny.”
