The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has registered Sierra Leone’s reported deaths of about 13, 186 with a shared number of 7,252 people representing 55% males and 5, 934 females representing 45% respectively.
According to NCRA, Section 26(1) of the Authority’s Act mandates the Authority to publish vital statistics of vital events covering Births, Deaths, Marriages, Divorces, Adoptions, Nullities, etc. on the population of Sierra Leone.
The statistics was revealed by NCRA’s provisional annual report on vital events for the year ending 31st December 2023.
According to the report of the total deaths 3,794 representing 28.8% were within the ages of 60 years plus, followed by the ages 35-59 with 3,710 representing 28.1%.
The reports further indicated that the under-five with 1,099 representing 23.5% while the ages 5-34 accounted for the least within 2,582 representing 19.3% respectively.
In the same vein, there was a total of 235,373 live births comprising 115,333 males representing 49% and 120,040 females representing 51%.
The report further stated that there was still births of which 2,143 were males representing 56% and 1,699 were female with 44%.
