Hon Bashiru Silikie has urged those responsible for the corruption investigation on Hon Paran Tarawally to be speed up.
The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Member of Parliament is also the Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
According to Hon Bashiru Silikie, before 2018 they planned to give Hon Paran Tarawally the leadership in Parliament but unfortunately Paran Tarawally was not awarded the MP symbol.
He said Paran Tarawally has struggled for the leadership in Parliament but for a very long time adding that now that Parliament has elected young men as Speaker and Deputy and that it is good that Paran Tarawally has come back to have taken his seat again.
It could be recalled that Hon Paran Tarawally was suspended as clerk of Parliament due to allegations of employing her wife without working in Parliament.
The ACC ordered Hon Paran Tarawally’s wife to refund all the monthly payment.
She received over the last 10 months without working in parliament.
The investigation is understood to be ongoing.
Giving his felicitation for the electing Hon
Sengepoh Solomon Thomas and Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, the Bashiru Silikie said he has confidence in the two speakers.
He said the two young speakers are elected because of their perfect track records and he believes that they will deliver.
“The public has bestowed much confidence in you Hon Sengepoh Solomon Thomas and Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh. Don’t deceive this confidence. Young people are looking up to you. Please deliver,” Hon Silikie stated.
He also informed the Speaker and Deputy about the status of Parliament MPs no longer has the privacy it deserves in Parliament.
He said all sort of people are coming to Parliament doing nothing but to just record private conversation of MPs and send it to the public.
He urged the two speakers to decongest Parliament and make Parliament an enviable institution that is fit for purpose.
“We need to make Parliament to regain it past glory; fix parliament to the better; uplift MPs status and moral,” Hon Silikie said.
Responding to comments made, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, who presided the sitting lauded the Deputy Leader of Government Business Hon Bashiru Silikie for his statement.
He said they are elected by all MPs from both sides and promised that they are going to sanitised Parliament and make it viable.
Hon Tawa also promised the provision of offices for all MPs and as well look into their welfare.
Other MPs lamented on the need to make Parliament a place conducive for all and sundry.
